About

douglas fink

For the past number of years, Douglas Fink has taken a leading role in contemporary figuration, building upon traditions within the medium while creating work that reflects his interest in Japanese iconography and Kinbaku, with a forward looking insight into tattoo culture. With a strong emphasis on process and materials, Fink utilizes modern mediums and processes in combination with traditional imagery, creating a contemporary mashup with broad cultural relevance. His work addresses the matter in which we perceive contemporary painting, manipulating the ideas of surface, form, and materiality.

Fink was born in Rocky Mountain House Alberta in 1974. He received his BFA in Sculpture and Printmaking from the University of Calgary in 1998. He lives and works in Calgary, Canada.
